Adams
Adams was one of Emanuel and Hannah’s sons born in December 1811 at Belle Grove Plantation, Middletown, Virginia. We don’t know much about Adams but think that he was sold during the 1824 Sixty Slaves for Sale when Major Isaac Hite Jr. cut back on his agricultural operations and liquidated much of his farm equipment, livestock, and enslaved persons.
Nace
Nace Jackson is another son of Emanuel and Hannah’s. He was born on January 22, 1814, which was recorded in Major Hite’s Commonplace Book, along with four faint letters: DIED. We don’t know when or how he died, but his brother, Emanuel, was born just a little over a year later on April 1, 1815, so there wasn’t much time between the two son’s births.
Frank
Frank Jackson is Emanuel (1786) and Hannah’s youngest son, who was born on June 22, 1818 at Belle Grove Plantation. According to The Commonplace Book, his father purchased his freedom some time between 1827 and 1830 for an unknown price. Historians don’t yet know where he lived, his family, and when or where he died.
Betsy Ann
Betsy Ann is the youngest daughter of Emanuel (1786) and Hannah, who was born on May 31, 1820 at Belle Grove Plantation. Like her brother, Frank, her father purchased her freedom some time between 1827 and 1830, and historians still trying to figure out where she lived and when she died after her emancipation.
